Unbroken Podcast 010: Jessica Griffith

For today’s podcast, I interviewed Jessica Griffith. I met Jessica two years ago when she competed in her first ever CrossFit competition.  She cracked me up back in the athlete staging area, and we became friends through the awesome CrossFit community.
I have watched Jessica grow into an amazing athlete.  She went from her first competition two years ago to competing in the CrossFit Games this year on a team.  You can tell she loves this sport and how it has changed her physically and mentally.
We talk about going to the dark place in a workout and how she goes to that place every workout at this point in her career. She saw what other Games athletes do to be the best, and it has driven her to work just as hard.

Unbroken Podcast 008: Mekenzie Riley

I had the privilege to drive to Peoria, IL to meet Mekenzie Riley at CrossFit 309 and hangout and talk fitness. I met Mekenzie a year ago at a competition hosted in Ozark, Missouri called Ozark Mountain Shredfest, and she was awesome. She added me as a friend on Facebook and offered to help me with my quest to lose weight. We have stayed friends ever since.

Mekenzie is a lifestyle coach and registered dietitian. She has her own business as well, Real Results Nutrition Consulting.  Not only does she talk the talk, but she walks the walk.  She is an amazing CrossFit athlete and competes with the best. She placed 3rd in her district in the last CrossFit Games Open.

e talk about how she started CrossFit and how it helped her change the way she approached her own nutrition. Now, she wants to share that knowledge with others. Her team has some big plans for this next Games season. We talk training and what it is like to work together as a team.

So much fun!  Glad I got to do it and look forward to doing it again!

Unbroken Podcast 007: Jordan Chiles

Jordan Chiles was a really fun interview for my James Bond 007 episode. We talk about his nutrition and how he discovered carb back-loading after pounding 12 tacos on Taco Tuesday. We talk about his daily training and what it was like to train and compete with a team. He describes how he programs the workouts for his gym, CrossFit Provision.

Unbroken Podcast 006: Sheridan Page


Today’s episode is with Sheridan Page. If it was the end of the world or the zombie apocalypse happened, Sheridan is the person you would want with you. He knows a little about everything and always has a good story to go with it. He has 29 professional kickboxing and boxing fights under his belt.

Sheridan is no stranger to hard work. He played sports in high school and
then found himself in a boxing gym after his divorce from his first wife.
I was excited to talk about the boxing gym environment and how someone
trained to be a fighter.
We also talk about how he transitioned from fighting to lifting using the
Arnold method and then to CrossFit. Sheridan has realized how much he
loves coaching and has coached CrossFit for the last 2 years. I have had
the pleasure of competing in two competitions with him. This was a fun
interview with a fun person!

Unbroken Podcast 004: Ashley Humphries

On today’s episode of the Unbroken Podcast we talk to Ashley Humphries. On Facebook before I even started my podcast, I made a post about my own fight with my eating disorder of binge eating.  She reached out to me afterwords in a private message and thanked me for sharing my story and then shared part of hers with me. I knew I had to have her on the podcast.
We had met earlier in the year while prepping for the Tanger Throwdown and instantly became friends! One of the nicest people you can meet.  She is genuinely concerned for the welfare of others and has become a outspoken advocate for people who have eating disorders.  She thought she was alone and when she shared her story on facebook, it helped several people.  She wants people realize they are not alone.

Unbroken Podcast 003: Dylan Harris

On this episode of The Unbroken Podcast, I talk to Dylan Harris.  Dylan has been my nutrition coach for 8 months, and I have lost a lot of weight working with him. We discuss working with a trainer for your fitness goals.  We talk about how Dylan went from playing college baseball to bodybuilding and now CrossFit.

We also talk about how sick he got last year and discuss what kind of toll it took on his body, going through surgery and then recovery. Also, I have to tell you, during the last 10 minutes of the podcast, the audio starts getting choppy.  Maybe my laptop started overheating, so I apologize for that. This is still a major learning curve for me.

Unbroken Podcast 002: Macy Mitchell

This is the first podcast I have ever recorded, and Macy Mitchell was awesome enough to let me figure out how to even do this thing with him.  I felt really nervous at the start, but now I feel like I settled into the interview after saying “like” a thousand times.

Macy is a very busy person, but you can tell family is always number one for him. Our kids come and hang out in the interview as well.  He is a business owner of All-American Rental and co-owner of CrossFit Republic.

CrossFit has become more than just a place to exercise for Macy. The members of the gym have become like family. We talk working out, eating healthy and getting your mind right.

So It Begins

As I am sitting here thinking about what I am about to start, I cannot help but get really excited and nervous. I am jumping into this thing with a lot of heart and YouTube video knowledge.  I want to do it as right as I can.  I have researched the best quality/affordable mics, how to host a podcast, and how to edit and record them.  I have my social media covered, and I have this website. So again, now I am sitting here thinking about what I have gotten myself into.

I am excited, because I love to talk to people. I am passionate about fitness, weight loss, weightlifting and just helping other people.  This is a way for me to do all of that.  I get to keep hitting it hard in the gym. I get to keep eating healthy. I get to go out and talk to my friends who know way more than I do. I get to go out and make new friends and talk to people I admire.

95 pounds is a lot of weight to lose, but I still have about 35+ pounds to take off. I am still trying to make myself better. This is a way for me to do that. A way for me to stay on my game, because if I start slipping, people will know.

I hope I get to help people. I hope someone will see me and think, if this guy can do it, anyone can.  I am no one special. I just put myself into situations where it is hard to fail.  Get the mindset right, and surround yourself with people who want to help you.  This podcast is my attempt to surround myself with all of you and be vulnerable.

I plan on posting about my podcast for that week.  We will be releasing one every Wednesday.  I will also post daily regarding health, working out and getting your mind right.  I hope to have guest posts from friends. We will have a lot of fun and also tackle some serious subjects.
